Abstract

Company financial performance, especially as measured by Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE), is an important benchmark in evaluating management effectiveness. However, given the diversity of characteristics between industry sectors, it is important to understand whether the commonly used average standards of ROA and ROE can be applied across the board. This study focuses on two sectors with unique characteristics, namely transportation & logistics and healthcare. Using secondary data from 36 transportation & logistics companies and 34 healthcare companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The data is sourced from the Indonesia Stock Exchange website, the company's official website and Yahoo Finance, this study aims to determine the relevant ROA and ROE benchmarks for each sector. The results of descriptive analysis and homogeneity of variance tests indicate significant differences in financial performance between the two sectors. The healthcare sector generally recorded a higher average ROA (1.93%) compared to the transportation & logistics sector (0.56%). This indicates that the assets of healthcare companies are more efficient in generating profits. In contrast, the transportation & logistics sector recorded a higher average ROE (14.46%) compared to the healthcare sector (3.52%). This finding suggests that investors in the transportation & logistics sector earn a higher rate of return on their investment, despite lower asset utilization efficiency.
